Dubrovnik

The vivid red roofs and the monumental walls surrounded by the blue of the Adriatic Sea are the recognisable image of Dubrovnik, a pearl situated under Srđ mountain. It is a city rich in history. For centuries, the old Republic of Ragusa was the largest maritime power in this part of the Adriatic and the first state in Europe that banned human trafficking and slavery. One of the first medieval sewer systems, which is still in function today, and the pharmacy of the Franciscan monastery, which has been active continuously since 1317, are just a few things that make us proud.

The old historical part of the city, surrounded by the walls, almost two kilometres long, is a real small wonder loved by the tourists, which surround numerous small churches, monuments and museums. In addition to Stradun, the main street and the favourite promenade of the locals and the tourists, each small side street is also magical. Due to its particular architecture, Dubrovnik is part of UNESCO’s World Heritage List since 1979.

The unique beauty and charm were also recognised by the film industry, and for that reason in recent years, Dubrovnik has become a film set for the world known series Game of Thrones, the famous Star Wars and the Hollywood blockbuster Robin Hood.

“If you want to see paradise on Earth, come to Dubrovnik!” is the quote by the famous Irish writer George Bernard Shaw, after his visit to this famous city.

The pearl of the Adriatic, as called by many, is a fairy tale city that every traveller should visit at least once in their life.
