Meet Ston and Pelješac

Wine, Salt and Tradition

Ston on the Pelješac Peninsula is a small town with the longest stone wall in Europe (5.5 km) and – after the Chinese Wall – it is the second longest in the world. The Ston salt factory dates back from the 14th century. It is the oldest active salt factory in the world today, remaining faithful to the tradition and way of producing salt which has not changed since ancient times. Did you know that the Ston salt, by its purity, takes second place in the Mediterranean region?

Grapevines adorn the Pelješac Peninsula since old times, especially red grapes, the most important one being plavac mali, native Croatian variety. Wine roads, wineries and wine-cellar tours give you a strong sense of Pelješac and its people’s tradition, way of living and love for the soil, the grapes and wines.
